talks STEM & AI.

Science and technology is the gateway to which humans understand and influence the world, and it’s as fascinating as it is powerful. From ancient qanats to modern biocomputers, Angharad loves to learn about everything humans have learned. She has a particular interest in biology, sustainability, and AI.

She has appeared on ABC’s Q&A (2023) discussing AI, Algorithms and Art, and explored the rabbit hole of AI art in AI vs Human: The Creativity Experiment (2023) for Catalyst. She has worked alongside some of the leading researchers and creators of AI, and spoken to audiences about the rapidly changing landscape of AI. She has a particular interest in how it is (and will) influence art and culture.

She has done keynotes and panels about AI for organisations such as Amazon AWS, Creative Victoria, and APRA AMCOS.

Angharad has worked on numerous science-related projects over the years – including ABC Science’s Elevator Pitch. This playful, short format digital show challenges experts in various fields of science to explain a concept in the time it takes an elevator to travel to the top of a tall storey building, and back down.

In it, Angharad tackles topics such as string theory, quantum mechanics, or what came before the big bang, and must absorb dense information in a high pressure situation before explaining back what she has learned to the audience.

Elevator Pitch won Best Documentary at Sydney Web Fest in 2019, has been used as material in numerous educational institutions (including Penn State University), and garnered millions of views online. It has also earned Angharad Highly Commended for Best Technical Journalist at the IT Journalism Awards in 2021 & 2022.

Angharad also hosted ABC Science’s Rad Experiments, which brought science into the home (specifically her home). This mid-lockdown digital show focused on curiosity, playfulness, and the desire to figure out “why”.

She is also a tech guru, having worked as a freelance tech journalist writing hardware reviews for Gizmodo Australia, Finder, and Junkee. Her writing style uses expertise and a critical eye to examine usefulness, value, and quality from a user’s perspective. She believes that tech is for everyone, and aims to help readers understand how it can best be used.

Angharad has appeared as an expert to talk tech on radio and TV broadcast outlets, including the BBC. Notably, Angharad talks regularly on ABC Weekend Breakfast about the tech, science, and gaming news. She is also a regular guest on RN Drive’s Tech Heads and Download This Show.
